Hints on Child Friendly Events

There are a number of issues directly related to holding events that are targeted specifically to children.

It is important to work from a child safe and child friendly perspective. Child safe means taking steps to keep children safe from physical, sexual or emotional abuse. Child friendly means children are valued, respected and included so they feel confident they will be listened to.

It is best practice for services and organisations to ensure that staff that work with children and young people to organise events have undertaken the appropriate Working with Children Check.

It is best practice for community groups, when utilising services or community workers to help you engage the participation of children and young people to ask the individuals for their:

  • Current Working with Children check status
  • Current and previous experience working with children and young people
  • Values and methods for keeping children and young people safe
